TOOL SHARPENING

A variety of sharpening tools and techniques were shared at the Bratton home in January. Everyone brought their own favorite tools to demonstrate and share, as well as some household items that got a nice sharpening! Followed with a delicious potluck dinner of course!


DOUBLE-BLADE PADDLES

Susan Christie shared how she makes double-blade paddles. A tradition passed down from her father, these paddles are great in the water and beautiful as well.

Mike and Susan Black will once again host this annual gathering at their home in southern Poconos area. Everyone brings their favorite camping dish to create and share, and then everyone enjoys the taste testing!

PINE BARRENS PADDLE

Enjoy a day trip paddling one of the winding rivers in the Pine Barrens in South Jersey. A potluck picnic will follow at the home of Jennifer and Ed Clarke.

PASAIC AND WALKILL RIVERS

Come one day or both and enjoy a scenic paddle through picturesque and serene rivers hidden from the hustle and bustle of North Jersey. As usual, the group will find a nice spot to pull over and enjoy a picnic lunch.

BELTZVILLE LAKE DAY TRIP

This beautiful lake in Lehighton, PA comes alive with colorful rhododendrons in June. And we usually spot quite a few herons and turtles!

WCHA ASSEMBLY in the ADIRONDACKS

July 16 – 21, 2024

The annual gathering at Paul Smiths College in the scenic Adirondacks is truly a memorable experience. Learn about canoe construction and restoration, and enjoy spectacular paddles among the many pristine lakes in the Adirondacks, Meet up with friends old and new to share our love for wooden canoes, and to get out on the water.

Tribute to Bruce Phillips

We were saddened to receive the news in May that our paddling friend Bruce Phillips finally lost his fight with declining health and passed away. Many of us have fond memories of sharing paddling excursions and listening to Bruce’s stories of his past adventures. Some DelVal Chapter members assembled some images and remembrances to share with his sister. Click here to see them.


DELAWARE RIVER in the POCONOS

Come just for the Saturday day paddle on the Delaware River, or plan to camp overnight in the Poconos at the home of Jim Wilson’s sister Pat. Sunday morning we will paddle on a nearby lake.

GIFFORD PINCHOT STATE PARK

Friday, October 11 – 13, 2023

The annual gathering of four chapters of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association is an opportunity to again enjoy many of the benefits of the annual Assembly, but it is a bit closer to home. Canoe construction demonstrations, paddle-making demonstrations, and a gear swap take place in the pavilion at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, PA. Paddling, potluck dinners and campfires round out a great weekend. Campsites and cabins go quickly, so make your reservations!

NORTH JERSEY PADDLE and PICNIC
